MAP fosters new pathways to China for UK exporters

MAP collaborates with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) in China and UK exporters. Work between April and June 2022 includes discussions with His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for China, John Edwards, and making direct connections for UK companies to explore new export opportunities and overcome market access barriers.

DBT’s responsibilities include: supporting and promoting British businesses to grow and export; opening up new markets for businesses by removing barriers; and, promoting free trade, economic security and resilient supply chains.

Since China initiated its economic reforms in 1978, the country has experienced an average annual GDP growth of nearly 10%, lifting more than 800 million people (total population of 1.4 billion) out of poverty. China's GDP growth was 8.1% in 2021. By 2030, China and Hong Kong are expected to host 33% of the world’s middle-class consumers.

In 2021, UK exports to China totalled £27 billion, marking a 3% increase from 2020. China is now the UK’s third-largest trading partner, accounting for 7.3% of the UK's total trade.

MAP’s works closely with the Department for Business and Trade, including via its role advising Made in Britain on international trade and supply chains. Made in Britain is a trade association with a growing membership, now of 1,800 UK manufacturing companies.

MAP strengthens the resilience, sustainability and growth of the entities it works for. MAP does this through International Trade and Supply Chain solutions that advise, inform and connect: buyers, suppliers, investors and stakeholders.
